Vale gets heavy with the toxic herbicide

Vale gets heavy with the herbicide. Glyphosate is a toxic herbicide used to kill weeds.

It is a widely used herbicide linked to cancer

The World Health Organization's research arm declares glyphosate a probable carcinogen,

FOE  have researched
the dangers of its use.
The Vale had current and future pesticide objectives which were outlined as below:
Once magnificent with flowers
  • To stop the use of pesticides - wherever possible
  • To minimise / reduce use of pesticides
  • To use alternative methods - wherever possible
  • To continually assess methods.
However the Vale of Glamorgan Labour Council Still use it ...lots ....'With regard to the use of glyphosate,
the Parks Department usage per annum for pesticides was around 150 litres approximately.  Of this, approximately 80 litres were glyphosate based' But was it really necessary to use it on the roundabout to remove a lttle grass and a single marigold planted by guerrilla gardeners?

Open letter to Penarth Cllrs dismay at lack of flowers

The Penarth Civic Society would like to see the reintroduction of planting at the roundabout which would enhance the environment at that location as clearly evidenced by these photographs.

As members of Penarth Civic Society we are dismayed at the omission of a floral display on Penarth’s central clock roundabout.

It shows a lack of accountability by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, as well as lack of sensitivity to civic pride, sense of place and well being, everything the town plan seeks to encourage.

The excellent floral displays in Alexandra Gardens and on the Esplanade stand in contrast.  We ask for consultation with the civic and business communities to guarantee future floral displays.
